Seajacks Scylla has 28 jacket foundations to install at the Moray East offshore wind farm, before it wraps up one of the biggest offshore construction works on the project.
Only this month (November 2020), the vessel has put in place 18 jackets, so the foundation installation is expected to be completed in January, at the latest. The first jacket was installed at the beginning of July, and the quarter of all the project’s foundations were in by the end of August.
The 950 MW wind farm, which will comprise 100 wind turbines and three offshore transformer modules (OTMs), saw all three of its OTMs in place by mid-September.
Smulders has manufactured 55 wind turbine jacket foundations for the project, while Lamprell delivered the remaining 45 and the three jackets for the project’s OTMs.
The Moray East wind turbines will be supplied by MHI Vestas, while the OTMs have been delivered by Siemens Energy.
DEME is the EPCI contractor for Moray East’s foundations and the transport and installation of the OTMs. The company is using Seajacks Scylla after its newbuild installation vessel Orion went through a crane accident in May, which damaged the crane and the vessel deck.
The 950 MW offshore wind farm, being built some 22 kilometres off the Aberdeenshire coast, is scheduled to be fully operational in 2022.
